Mubarak: Foreigners Causing the Problems in Egypt

Mubarak calls for Cohesion of Muslims and Christians to prevent attempts to drive wedges among them
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that “we are all one people, we are all sons of this land, and there is no difference between a Muslim and a Copt. Everyone they grew this country and worked for it.” The President called upon all Egyptians, Muslims and Christians, to be unified in Egypt so that nobody causes further disintegration of national unity, or tries to drive a wedge between Muslim and Copt. He called on Egyptians to reject any sectarian prejudices and intolerance, and claimed there are some outsiders who are trying to increase the gap between Muslims and Christians.

Seems a good step in the direction of Egyptian unity would be to capture the Muslims who kill and torture Copts and destroy their property, and put them on trial as criminals or terrorists. In fact, that is what’s happening in the case of the Christmas attack on Copts. The case is called Nagg Hammadi, for the location of the murders and riots. Is Mubarak saying that these Muslims who attack Christians are foreigners and not Egyptians? Is he saying that foreigners put them up to it, and it wasn’t a local initiative? Which foreigners? America, Israel, Iran, Gaza, Saudi Arabia, Norway…?

Elsewhere Mubarak said that Egyptian Muslims, Christians and Jews were all the same: Egyptians. Nice sentiment. The remaining Jews of Egypt were terrorized and chased out of Egypt in 1967. Evidently many Egyptians do agree at least that Egyptian Copts should be like Egyptian Jews: gone.
