Japan: Iran Most Liberal Country in Mideast, Wants to Get Closer

Japan has long had strong relations with Iran and has worked to keep good relations with Saudi Arabia and its other oil suppliers, so Japan’s wooing of Iran and its alignment with Russia, China and North Korea in relation to Iran, while perhaps unwise, aren’t so surprising. What is shocking is the dishonesty of Masahiko Komura in stating that Iran is the most liberal country in the Mideast. Is Komura so delusional, or is this slobbery pandering what’s required of nations who have to stay in the Ayatollah’s good graces?

Iran most liberal state in Middle East: Japanese official

Tehran, July 14, IRNA – Former foreign minister of Japan Masahiko Komura said here on Wednesday that Iran is the most liberal country in the Middle East region.
Komura, one of the top members of the Liberal Democratic Party in Japan, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with an IRNA correspondent.

Komura said Tokyo should not avoid Tehran or get away from it, but instead Japanese companies should participate more actively in Iran.

On Tuesday, Japan’s Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada had told IRNA in Tokyo that his country is determined to further deepen cooperation with Iran.

Komura, who co-chairs the Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, said the two countries enjoy friendly ties.

Asked about the US negative action against Iran, the former Japanese FM opined that former US president George W Bush had taken wrong policies on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On the Tehran Declaration on which three countries of Iran, Turkey and Brazil reached the agreement, Komura said it was positive.

He further added that Japan does not deny Iran’s nuclear activities which seek peaceful purposes.
